Daisy Duck maybe?

Daisy Duck maybe?

favorite thing about them

She’s so supportive of Donald while still being her own duck, even if a slightly misguided one sometimes (cough)

least favorite thing about them

When she’s just Donald Duck’s Girlfriend or even worse, when she falls into the “haha women are bitter jealous shrews” writing tropes. You’ll see this a lot in the classic cartoons especially, but I think that was just the time they were written.

favorite line

It’s going to be weird thematically to point out the failings of the classic shorts and then immediately bring one up, but if favorite bits count, I’m going to mention her part in Donald’s Dream Voice. She picks his mood right up off the ground, and then the rest of the short is technically about her and how much he loves her, and it’s adorable,

Believe it or not, Scrooge! I feel like they have precious few stories between themselves (rather than “happening to appear together”) but there’s been some good ones in there. How To Induce A Miser comes to mind because it’s just got some great interactions, but my favorite would probably have to be Himalayan Hideout where they go up against Magica De Spell and WIN, because of Daisy.

image

They’ve had some great dealings together and genuinely care about one another, and Scrooge already treats her like one of his family even though she’s not related. I LOVE IT.

(Also, requisite “Daisy-and-Minnie” mention here as well~ )

I mean really now, c’mon.

Daisy and Gladstone, especially because 9 times out of 10 it’s only written as “to make Donald angry”

random headcanon

Donald gave her a bouquet of flowers one day, and whatever became of it (it either wilted naturally or, Donald being Donald, was struck by lightning or eaten by a goat or something on the way), she took the satiny ribbon that they were wrapped in and has repurposed it as an occasional piece of her outfit.

unpopular opinion

Is it bad that I’m not as big on Daisy as some others are?  Like, she’s awesome, don’t get me wrong. But honestly while growing up I didn’t get exposed to quite as much media with her in it as I did the others (like I had Uncle $crooge comics and a tape with a couple Donald, or Mickey-Donald-Goofy, shorts on them). She just wasn’t in many of my books and we all know she wasn’t in the original DuckTales, so I never attached to her as a kid like I did other Ducks. This is starting to change as I indulge in media now as an adult, though.

I’m gonna go ahead and say Helpless from Hamilton yes yes I know hush but that’s easily 70% because it popped up on my playlist as I was writing this whole meme answer, and I was thinking that it’s a good song for her whole “hopelessly romantic” side.

Does the park walkaround count? It’s going to because look at this adorableness.

Scrooge McDuck! ^^

Scrooge McDuck! ^^

favorite thing about them

You know, I could say plenty of things like his heart (that’s somewhere in there), his general attitude, his classy appearance, his utter RIDICULOUSNESS but I’m just gonna go ahead and be honest, and say it’s when he does the thing

least favorite thing about them

Would it be weird to say his cheapness?  Or at least, when he’s written as being cruelly cheap because that’s just not how he is looking at you Mr. Rosa

You know what?  Scrooge and Donald.  I don’t even care the version, just seeing them adventuring or spending time together is my favorite

Scrooge/Brigitta. Her character has promise, but I just hate the double standards written with her. If it were reversed Scrooge would be a creep and a stalker, but for Brigitta it’s just story.

random headcanon

I’m gonna borrow one that @cybra-sensei gave me and say that Scrooge wears the spats so much (like seriously, even in situations he’s otherwise naked, STILL THE SPATS) is to help cover scars from his time at White Agony Creek

unpopular opinion

….I have no idea.

song i associate with them

Gonna link a couple non-DuckTales ones!  First is this one, which is literally called “Swimming In My Money (Scrooge McDuck)” but please note it uses explicit language at times, and the video itself uses flashing imagery during the non-chorus parts (the actual chorus, my favorite part, uses clips).
The other song is Branded by NateWantsToBattle, which is about LA I believe? But it’s got this whole general #capitalism thing, and I especially love the line “Branded by dollar-sign shaped scars”

SO MANY. But I’m gonna put this one in

Only do if you want to: Hug, Kiss, Resist (a sorta kid friendly FMK): Scrooge, Donald, and Launchpad?

Shoot I forgot this was in here, sorry anon!  Okay let’s see here…

Launchpad would get Resist, mostly by process of elimination.  Sorry LP!  We’ll catch a movie sometime…?

Donald would get Hug because lbr here Donald needs all the hugs ever

And I would Kiss Scrooge. Probably right smack on the temple/forehead somewhere because dammit duck you’re utter shitlord trash but I love you anyway.

How do you edit your drawings so that the paper isn’t visible and the linework looks sort of digital? You mentioned that you use GIMP, which I have, but what process do you use?

Lots, and LOTS of going back and forth between Levels and Brightness/Contrast.  This tutorial will get a little long so I’ll put it beneath a cut.

The first thing I do is get the clearest, most evenly lit picture I can get. Yesterday’s Inktober is the example again, so we’ll start with that.

image

Any weird shadows and folds can be gotten out in the editing, so long as the lines are clean and dark. You’ll have an easier time with pens or markers than you will with pencil marks.  Once you’ve got it either photographed or scanned, it’s time to start editing.

Once you crop it to what you want, the first thing that needs to be done is make sure your image is in Grayscale, particularly if the base picture is in warmer tones like the one we’ve got here.

image

After that, I go into Levels, where there’s a little better control.

image

I don’t tend to mess with any of the default settings, or the different channels and such.  All I do is slide around the top graph there to change the black, grey, and white levels. Play around with it until you’ve got something that looks right.

image

You have to watch the lines because the more you change it, the less quality the lines will get. It’s a fine line, and there’s multiple steps to it anyway, where it’ll be fine-tuned.

You’ll see even with some points of the image here the right black/white ratio I want, there’s still a lot of grey parts.  This is where the custom select comes in. Isolate the areas you want to fix, and then you can edit those parts on their own in the same way.  Either Levels or the simpler Brightness/Contrast can be used here, which is what I did in this example.

image

I just kept going back and forth selecting smaller and smaller areas until the entire picture is properly black and white, and clean. This might make some parts less contrasted than others, but that’s an easy fix by doing the same thing.

image

Like in the drawing here I had to fix the first area that’d been brightened first, but boosting contrast got it fine.

From there, it’s just minor fixes!  Erasing any notes or drawing back in any lines. So long as you start from good, dark lines, and can play around with the settings your own particular drawing needs, it’s not hard to get something that looks scanned or even digitally drawn.

Hope this helps!

That sure is some fine duck art! Well everything but your art is really nice. Here’s wishing you a great week!

Aww, thank you anon! That really cheers my night up. Hope you have a great week, too!

I am vengeance ! I am the Night ! I AM DARKWING DUCK !!!! Do you and nega duck bleed ? Because of you both will !

Is that so, Dw? First time I’ve heard you threaten a fan of yours. 😛

Do you think Daisy is ever going to appear in Ducktales? I was searching her up and read on her wiki that she never appeared in the older version, which makes me sad since I share the same name and I feel attached to her.

Well, some of the crew did say that the only character off limits is Mickey. I’m pretty sure Daisy might make an appearance in the show as she is part of the huge duck cast(?) herself. I think the show is mainly focusing on the family relationships more than anything else, buuuut… who’s to say she isn’t considered part of the family?
