Don Rosa –
The Dutchman’s Secret
Here we have Scrooge building the tallest building in Duckburg just to save money. I also love the sheer absurdity of the plane in the third panel.
I LOVE THIS STORY. It’s got great gags, and also gave us one of the greatest single panels (plus inset leadup) that’s ever come out of duck comics.
Shout out to the many sound effects of things hitting Scrooge’s head, or vice versa.
The “hole in the pocket” picture I just reblogged reminded me of this, one of my favorite 1-pager gags.
Leaky Luck by Don Rosa, appearing in Uncle $crooge 242 in 1990
Scrooge’s Uncle Pothole would like to tell you about the Mississppi River.
(From The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, chapter 2- Master of the Mississippi)
don rosa’s hatred of fethry will never not be funny to me
there’s just something so funny about “as far as I’m concerned, Fethry does not exist” just because he wasn’t created by carl barks
also, “Curses!!!” with THREE exclamation points
(quote found in volume 5 of the don rosa library collection, under the section about the family tree!)
I think my blog and a considerable part of my childhood were just an hallucination then.
Why must you hurt me Don Rosa
I can’t even imagine Fethry not being on the Duck Family tree! Thank God the editors knew what they were doing, and thank God they are also big fans of this character
I haven’t seen the new Gladstone ep yet but from the spoilers I’ve seen this is the vibe I get.
I’m pretty sure the reason it did take Flinty 50 years to catch up with Scrooge is mostly, if not purely, because Scrooge had Hortense and Matilda.
In Life and Times, Scrooge spends the chapter XI (years
travelling around the globe building his financial empire while his sisters take care of the matters at home.
Scrooge wouldn’t have been able to do this without his sisters.
Now, granted, we don’t know for sure but somehow I doubt Don Rosa’s Flinty had anyone he trusted enough even back then, so he was far more tied down and wasn’t able to travel nearly as much. It was really only after Scrooge cut ties with his family, and then retired to his mansion, that Glomgold managed to catch up and probably take over some of Scrooge’s companies etc.
In any case, Scrooge might have believed he built his financial empire on his own but that’s not really true.
